অশ্মমন্ডল বলতে প্রাকৃতিকভাবে সৃষ্ট গ্রহ-উপগ্রহসমূহের এমন একটি স্তরকে বোঝানো হয় যেটি মূলত বহিরাবরণ হিসাবে কাজ করে থাকে। পৃথিবীর অশ্মমন্ডল ভূত্বক থেকে শুরু হয়ে ম্যান্টেলের উপরিভাগ পর্যন্ত বিস্তৃত। কঠিন শিলা দ্বারা গঠিত পৃথিবীর বহিরাবরণকে শিলামণ্ডল বলে।
